I recently visited Olympic Meats in Marrickville and left feeling disappointed, especially given its high ratings. The sides were genuinely enjoyable and well‑made, which helped lift the experience, and the service and overall vibe inside the venue were warm and welcoming. However, the gyro meats were unfortunately very tough and chewy, and also arrived at our table cold, which really impacted the meal. With better execution on the meats, this could have been a great experience, but overall it fell short of expectations. I’m hopeful it was just an off day, as the atmosphere and staff were definite positives.

Overall, it was an okay, decent experience, but a few small changes could make it much better for everyone. A booking system would be a big improvement instead of relying solely on walk-ins. It might suit couples with time to spare, but for most people you can end up waiting 30 – 40 minutes. Given the smaller seating capacity, having the option to book ahead would make a lot of sense. Service was generally fine for a casual sit-down restaurant. However, the lady managing the takeaway area was quite rude when I asked where the bathroom was. She made me feel like a major inconvenience. I understand the store was busy, but when things aren’t obvious, people are going to ask. Good customer service should still apply, even during busy periods. The food was good; not the best Greek food of this style, but certainly not bad. Gyros meat is hard to get wrong when the quality is decent, and overall it was flavoursome and enjoyable. I wouldn’t come back for a sit-down meal with my family unless it was just my wife and me and we had time to spare.

What an AMAZING meal, share plates were delicious. The pickled octopus and iceberg lettuce was fabulous. The Greek chips and taramasalata were so tasty. But the mixed meat platter OMG the lamb, the pork and the chook just melted in your mouth. (Not anything like what 2 reviews said a few days ago!!!). A lovely open venue to sit out on a warm evening. The team are super chatty which makes you feel very welcome. Serive excellent all round. BYO so don't forget a bevvvy!

People don’t lie when they say you smell it before you see it. I came here on a Wednesday evening 15-20m after they opened and there were already a couple people seated. We ordered the pork pitogyro (deconstructed), pita, melitzanosalata (eggplant), htapodi xidato (pickled octopus), arakas laderos (stewed peas), chips, and a loukanika, between 2 people (could serve 3-4 satisfactorily). Leftovers still hit. Chips were great despite reading 1-2 reviews that they were over-fried, pork was smoky and soft, pita was insanely soft and pillowy. Servers were also super honest and down-to-earth. Vibes were cool, very inner-west. Would definitely come back and order the eggplant and peas again.

We’ve had a few deferrals before we managed to get here and it was worth the wait (including 40 mins to be seated). The first thing that stands out is how friendly, knowledgeable and efficient the staff are. Then the food, which we couldn’t fault. We came for the meat, and we got plenty but it’s those tallow fried chips I can’t stop thinking about. We were lucky enough to score the last bougatsa, which was divine. Excellent food, atmosphere and service, it was all faultless
